Canisius College sophomore forward Phil Valenti suffered a scary injury during Friday night's game, but X-rays on his right ankle came back negative, the college reports.
Valenti, a sophomore from Victor, suffered what is being called a right ankle joint injury. He was hurt battling for an offensive rebound with 17:21 left in the Griffs' victory over Quinnipiac. Valenti was in a lot of pain. He was tended to on the court for about 10 minutes before being carted off on a wheelchair. He was taken to the hospital for the X-rays.
Valenti ranks second on the Canisius team in scoring, third in rebounding and first in assists. He's likely to miss significant time, but the good news is he does not have a broken ankle.
