City of Tonawanda
Mark E. Saltarelli, a lawyer with a practice on Delaware Street and longtime parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, has announced his intent to run for a 10-year term as city court judge.
A Syracuse University College of Law graduate, Saltarelli served as acting city court judge from 2008 until 2013. He has also taken a lead in appealing Bishop Richard J. Malone’s decision last year to close St. Francis of Assisi School.
City Judge Joseph J. Cassata, according to state law, must retire because he turns 70 this year.
The city’s “full-service” court includes drug, civil, domestic, mental health, traffic and housing court on different days each week.
“I will be the only candidate possessing the expertise to carry on the work of this court and serve the needs of the citizens of the City of Tonawanda and those using our court,” Saltarelli, 59, said in a statement.
