Putting Marshawn Lynch, Rob Gronkowski and comedian Conan O'Brien in the same room was a brilliant idea by itself.
But Thursday night on TBS' "Conan," the eccentric trio gathered in a Courtyard Marriott in Phoenix to play the yet-to-be-released video game "Mortal Kombat X." The video was part of Conan's regular mini-series Clueless Gamer, which is essentially a video-game promotion with perplexed and rather clumsy celebrities.
The quirky personalities of the pair of football stars are well-documented. But how well would they play off each other? Roughly 12 minutes of hilarity ensued, including some off-color humor and probably excessive crotch-grabbing. Be warned if you're sensitive to those things.
Lynch, the former Bills running back who was better known locally for his distaste for Buffalo and off-the-field incidents, will try to help the Seahawks repeat as NFL champions on Sunday. In his appearance on "Conan," "Beast Mode" shows a fun-loving, relaxed side that was absent from Super Bowl media day.
Gronkowski, who grew up in Western New York before spending a few years at Williamsville North High School, was repeatedly shredded by Lynch in "Mortal Kombat X," but took the beating in stride and had his share of funny moments.
Lynch's Seahawks will meet Gronkowski's Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Super Bowl XLIX.
