Joyce Carol Oates to address NCCC commencement

SANBORN – Famed author and Lockport-area native Joyce Carol Oates will be the speaker at the Niagara County Community College commencement ceremony May 16, the college announced.

NCCC President James P. Klyczek said the college is honored that Oates accepted the invitation to address the graduation ceremony. He said, “I look forward to the insightful message she will share with the class of 2015 as they prepare to make their mark on the world.”

Oates, 76, has published more than 50 novels and has won numerous awards for her work. She has been nominated three times for the Nobel Prize for Literature. Oates taught full-time at Princeton University for 36 years until retiring last year. She is teaching this semester at Stanford University and will be teaching one course at Princeton each fall.

The NCCC commencement will be held in the Seneca Niagara Events Center, Niagara Falls.
