It's 'fear the stache' night at Canisius; Black Out night at UB

It's a big night of college basketball for the Big 4.

The University at Buffalo plays a nationally televised game at 10 p.m. at Alumni Arena against Kent State, the leaders of the Mid-American Conference East Division. The Bulls are asking fans to wear black for "Black Out" night.

Canisius plays host to Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center, and the first 300 Canisius students to pick up tickets will receive a free "fear the stache" T-shirt honoring Griffs coach Jim Baron. All fans at the game will receive post-game ice cream, courtesy of Andersons. It's part of a promotional weekend for the Griffs. At both tonight's game and Sunday's 2 p.m. game against Marist, fans have a chance to win an "Ultimate Tailgate Experience" for Super Bowl Sunday.

The “Ultimate Tailgate Experience” prize package includes a 42-inch Smart TV by LG, a Bose Bluetooth speaker, a “Made in Buffalo” food package,  two chairs, a cooler, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl hats from New Era, two Buffalo Bills knit caps from New Era, a charcoal football grill, Pepsi backpack, T-shirts and three cases of Pepsi product. The prize pack will be presented in the second half of Sunday’s game by Buffalo Bills radio color commentator and former player Mark Kelso.

The Golden Griffins are currently 11-8 overall and 6-4 in MAAC play, which ties the Blue and Gold for fourth in the league’s standings along with Manhattan. Quinnipiac is 11-8 and 5-5.

UB is 13-6 and 4-3. Kent State has won six straight to improve to 15-5 and 6-1. The game is on ESPNU.

Meanwhile, Niagara plays host to Marist at 7 tonight and Quinnipiac at 2 Sunday.
