Debra K. Werner, of East Eden, a legal secretary, died unexpectedly Wednesday. She was 62.
Born in North Tonawanda, the former Debra Stalter was a 1970 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, where she studied business and became proficient in shorthand.
Mrs. Werner began her 45-year career as a legal secretary with Richard Handle in 1970, then worked with Lou Siegel from 1976 to 2005 and for Cheryl Green from 2006 to 2008, when she went to the Erie County Law Department, where she was working at the time of her death.
An avid bowler, she played in leagues for many years. She also enjoyed family fishing trips to Canada, boating on Lake Erie and NASCAR racing.
An East Eden resident since 1979, she was a dog lover and a dedicated backyard bird feeder.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Joseph T.; two sons, Joey and Jeffrey; her mother, Phyllis E. Stalter; a brother, Robert Stalter; and two sisters, Sherry Ganley and Janeen Godfrey.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 7 in Laing Funeral Home, 2724 W. Church St., Eden.
