Thieves accused of robbing a clerk in the Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – Police arrested a suspect Tuesday night who is accused of brazenly punching and knocking down a Corner Store clerk and then running off with the cash register.

Deshawn L. Simmons, 18, of Ninth Street, was charged at 11 p.m. Tuesday with second-degree robbery, third-degree assault and petit larceny. Two other suspects have not been identified.

The 60-year-old woman said at 5:16 p.m. she was at the register at the Corner Store in the 1200 block of 19th Street when three young men entered, two were wearing ski masks. The men took drinks and food.

As one male paid for his item and she was closing the cash register, another male struck her on the cheek with a closed fist, knocking her to the ground. The suspects then grabbed the cash register and fled. The woman said she was injured, but able to get up and go outside. She said she was unable to see which way they had fled.

The cash register was valued at $400 and the victim said a drop had been done prior to the robbery so the register contained less than a $100, as well as a check for $300.
