DUNKIRK – An iced-over windshield and driving without headlights led police to arrest a 16-year-old driver in a stolen car early Wednesday.
The youth, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, resisting arrest, and several vehicle and traffic law violations.
Police were investigating complaints about vehicle break-ins in the area of Train and McDonough streets when they located a vehicle that was traveling with its windshield iced over and without headlights illuminated. The vehicle crossed the road and struck a large snow embankment and a traffic control sign on the east shoulder of the roadway. After a foot chase, the driver was found hiding in a utility shed, police said.
Police report that the vehicle was stolen from a nearby residence.
