CARLTON – The victim of a Friday afternoon house fire in Orleans County has been identified by the
Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester.
The body of George P. Swartz, 65, was recovered late Friday from the basement of his two-story, burned-out home on Orchard Park Road, north of Route 104, the Orleans County Sheriff’s said Tuesday. The cause of death was ruled accidental, the result of having inhaled various combustibles as a result of the fire. However, the cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday.
Seven fire companies battled the fire, which was reported about 1:40 p.m. Friday.
Firefighters were hampered by exploding fireworks and large piles of debris, authorities said. In addition, water tankers had to be brought to the scene after the water main to a hydrant broke, officials said.
