United Way announces distribution of funds

The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County announces that it will invest more than $9.2 million during the next two years in local health and human service programs.

In the first installments, beginning July 1, a total of $4.1 million will be distributed to 59 nonprofit agencies, a 25 percent increase over programs currently receiving support from the United Way.

And $487,000 will go to services that include American Red Cross disaster relief, Closing the Gap in Student Performance, a program to help students in Buffalo schools administered by Catholic Charities; and Western New York 2-1-1, a referral service program by the Olmsted Center for Sight.
