Leroy Avenue man arrested for drugs and reckless driving

A 38-year-old Leroy Avenue man was arrested on drug and reckless driving charges after police finally forced him to pull over on the west bound exit of the Kensington Expressway at Best Street late Tuesday afternoon.

Walter Dennis had failed to pull over after an officer in a patrol car observed him failing to stop at the stop sign on Stockbridge Avenue and Suffolk Street and then he sped off driving recklessly and failing to stop at all intersections until he caused a property damage accident at East Amherst Street and Manhattan Avenue before driving onto the expressway, police said.

When finally stopped he was allegedly found to have a clear bag of what appeared to be a rock of cocaine. His car was impounded and he was charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawfully fleeing police in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, reckless driving, failing to obey stop signs, speeding and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
