Allentown is full of surprises, including Duke’s or DBGB as it’s affectionately known. Owner JJ Alfieri says beer aficionados will love the 157 kinds of beer including 17 on tap and multiple, hard-to-find seasonal selections. Folks also come for “Spirits of Bohemia” specialty cocktails like Allentown Iced Tea, the Manhattan Project or the Last Supper – a concoction called a “complete meal” and made with artichoke liquor, potato vodka, Ommegang Witte, beef stock, tomato juice and Tabasco sauce.
If you prefer something more solid, come for the famous smoked barbecue chicken wings.
How famous are they? Alfieri says, “We are a haven for late-night celebrity eaters. Comedian Charlie Murphy tweeted that our world famous smoked barbecued wings were the best wings he’s ever had. We’ve had 14 Grammy winning/nominated musicians eat here, as well as one Oscar winner. The entire Boston Bruins team came in for the wings a few weeks back.” (Boo to them.) Eggplant wings are available for non-meat-eaters.
Also spotted: Several Buffalo Bills who crave the wings and often stop by late night. (But we won’t rat them out to their coaches.) And if the players cannot make the trip, DGBG delivers wings and Yellow Pike Fingers to their practice facility.
