Fraudulent phone call in Wilson

WILSON – An 88-year-old Wilson man said he received a suspicious phone call Monday afternoon from someone claiming he had won a “large cash prize.”

The catch – he was instructed to go to Walgreens in Lockport and purchase a Green Dot reloadable credit card and deposit $120. The caller, a man with a Polish-type accent who identified himself as David Lewis, said the Wilson man should call him back in an hour with the 14-digit code and then he would be able to claim his prize.

The Wilson man didn’t take the bait, but instead contacted the Niagara County Sheriff Department. The case was turned over to the Niagara County Sheriff Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Wilson man was instructed to contact them if he receives any more calls from the unknown person.
