ALBION – A Medina resident was driving one of the vehicles involved in Saturday’s two-car collision that sent five people to hospitals, according to State Police.
The accident, at West County House and Gaines Basin roads, occurred at about 11 a.m. Saturday. Troopers said a vehicle heading south on Gaines Basin Road, driven by Edward R. Read, 72, of Rochester, failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of West County Road and collided with a westbound car driven by Brandon J. Grimes, 20, of Medina.
Read and one of his three passengers, Tina Elliott, 56, of Rochester, were ejected from the vehicle. They were airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where Read is listed in guarded condition and Elliott was treated and released.
Read’s two other passengers, both of whom live in Rochester, were treated at the same hospital and released. Christina J. Elliott, 32, had been airlifted and Kathy A. Jones, 50, was taken by ambulance.
After impact, Grimes’s vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, hit a mailbox and ended up on the shoulder of the road, troopers said. Grimes, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Batavia Hospital, where he was treated for facial injuries and released.
Troopers said the collision remains under investigation and that charges are pending.
