The restaurant planned for 927 Elmwood Ave. won’t be called Rocco’s, even though it’s coming from the owners behind Rocco’s Wood Fired Pizza.
Chuck Mauro, one of the owners, said the place will be named after John Tronolone, a member of the ownership group and Oliver’s host, who died in 2013. Tronolone worked with Mauro, Henry Gorino and others on Oliver’s, Siena, 800 Maple and Rocco’s.
“We’re going to try to pay tribute in some way, shape or form to our partner who passed away. We’re going to try to incorporate something in the naming, to recognize John,” Mauro said. “This is the first project we’ve done without him.”
From a menu standpoint, the group is aiming the restaurant to land in upscale casual territory. “It’ll probably end up between a Siena’s and a Rocco’s,” he said.
Environmental testing is under way, and a remediation plan is in the works. “We’re hoping that happens in the spring,” Mauro said. “We’re moving forward, in the right direction.” If everything works out, he said, expect the restaurant in late spring or early summer 2016.
Mauro also addressed a report noting that the building housing Siena, 4516 Main St. in Snyder, had changed ownership. “We’re not going anywhere,” he said.
