Livingston County 1979 murder victim identified

GENESEO – “Caledonia Jane Doe,” the teenaged girl found murdered in a field off Route 20 in the Town of Caledonia in 1979 was Tammy Jo Alexander, a 16-year-old girl from Atlanta, Georgia who was living in Brooksville, Florida in 1979 and attending high school there, Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty announced Monday. The sheriff said his investigators have been working with the Hernando County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office on “a recent lead” which led them, with new DNA testing, to identify the body.

Dougherty said the girl’s corpse was found in the Caledonia field on Nov. 10, 1979 with gunshot wounds to the head and back. He said his agency is continuing to work on the investigation with the Hernando County sheriff’s office, the FBI, and the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office “to bring Justice to Tammy Jo Alexander.” The sheriff said anyone with information about the girl or the “Caledonia Jane Doe” case is asked to call a centralized law enforcement hotline at 1-800-CALL-FBI/
