A 23-year-old man was charged with driving while intoxicated after walking away from a car that was facing the wrong direction on a Gowanda road, state police reported.
Troopers on patrol Saturday saw a car stopped in the driving lane of Mileblock Road, facing the wrong direction. When they stopped to check on it, Brett Elliott of Gowanda quickly got out, leaving the car running, and attempted to walk to a nearby home, authorities reported.
Troopers caught up to Elliott and found him to be intoxicated, authorities said. After failing field sobriety tests, Elliott was arrested on a DWI charge; he refused to take a breath test.
Elliott is scheduled to appear next month in Brant Town Court.
