The Girl Develop It chapter in Buffalo is holding the area’s first women-only hackathon for computer programmers and software developers on Feb. 7. The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the newly renovated 43North incubator, 640 Ellicott St.
During the day-long event, female developers, entrepreneurs, web designers and others will take on the challenge of designing new and improved websites for up to five area non-profits and women- or minority-owned small businesses. Teams will compete to design the best site within 12 hours, as determined by a panel of judges.
The International Institute of Business Analysts is selecting the companies. The hackathon is free for participants, but they must register by Feb. 6 at www.gdihacks.com. Food will be provided.
Girl Develop It helps women who want to learn how to develop software, websites and mobile applications through training and mentoring.
