A contractor who hid a camera inside an Amherst customer’s bathroom to record video of her while she showered was placed on three years’ probation Monday in Erie County Court.
Judge Michael F. Pietruszka also directed Kevin R. Eckert to avoid any contact with the woman or her husband for the next five years.
Eckert, 60, had pleaded guilty in July to a misdemeanor count of attempted unlawful surveillance.
He was arrested by Amherst police March 22 at his home on Tonawanda Creek Road in the Town of Lockport on two felony charges of unlawful surveillance and misdemeanor stalking charges.
The North Amherst woman, who is in her 30s, was stepping out of the shower March 21 when she noticed the lens of a motion-activated camera in an air return vent in the bathroom.
Police said Eckert, who had been hired numerous times to do odd jobs around the house, installed the camera, which was activated whenever someone took a shower.
