Ani DiFranco is coming home with a new album in tow, and it’s one of her finest. Which is truly saying something.
DiFranco is one of the most prolific independent artists of the past quarter century and has released more than her fair share of classics long before “Allergic to Water” dropped at the end of last year. Yet there’s something special about the record, even by DiFranco’s consistently high standards – it breathes easily, is comfortable in its own skin, and balances narrative thrust with whimsy and musical muscle with melodic urgency.
We’ll have the opportunity to hear DiFranco’s in-concert interpretation of some of the “Allergic to Water” material, as well as plenty of deep cuts from over the years, at 8 p.m. Feb. 4 in Asbury Hall at Babeville. DiFranco will be joined by Anais Mitchell. Tickets are $32.50 advance, $37 day of show (box office, Ticketweb.com).
