Victim of fatal crash identified as a Lockport man

A man who died in a two-car collision Saturday in the Town of Royalton was identified Sunday as Wilbur Rhinehart, 85, of Lockport.

Rhinehart was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Akron Road, according to Niagara County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies said Rhinehart was driving north when a southbound vehicle driven by James Zak, 39, of Royalton, slid into the Rhinehart vehicle.

Zak was first transported to Eastern Niagara Lockport Hospital for his injuries and later transferred to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo where he was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the collision.
