Garage burglary causes $1,700 loss

NIAGARA FALLS – An intruder not only stole $1,100 worth of goods from a Niagara Avenue garage Saturday, but slashed the tires on both vehicles parked inside before fleeing.

Police said that the burglar turned the power switch off to the garage before entering, sometime between 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. A main door was then kicked in, and an overhead power door was unlatched to allow easy exit. Items stolen included a snow blower and three bicycles.

A tire was slashed on each of two cars in the garage of the 72-year-old victim, police said, resulting in an additional $600 in damage.
