Where we live: Amherst


A forum on historic preservation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the auditorium of Williamsville South High School, 5950 Main St.

The free forum, sponsored by the Village of Williamsville, will focus on historic preservation and what it can do to provide economic development for communities.

Speakers include Williamsville Mayor Brian J. Kulpa; Kathy Howe, from the New York State Historic Preservation Office; and Leslie Zemsky, who will discuss the revitalization of the Larkinville neighborhood.

This week:

• A Chili Cook Off to benefit the Williamsville Library will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Irishman Pub and Eatery, 5601 Main St.

Cost is $5 for a chili pass to sample the chili recipes from area contestants.

• The Williamsville Village Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in Village Hall, 5565 Main St. A work session is scheduled for 6 p.m.

• The Amherst Zoning Board of Appeals will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Council Chambers of the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.

• The Information Technology Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Amherst Municipal Building.
