Where We Live: Alden1/25


The village will hold its 11th annual Winterfest Friday and Saturday. Events will be held throughout the day at the Town Park, Intermediate School campus and Alden Presbyterian Church.

Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with activities for all ages. There are more than 30 events planned.

For Friday, the movie, “Frozen,” family fun, Newfoundland dog rides, ice skating and moonlight ski and karaoke are on tap.

On Saturday, snow sculpting in the park will be featured, along with Kan Jam, snowball sling shot, a pet contest, hockey shoot-out and box races. Skis to use throughout the park are free. The park is located at 13140 Main St.

Horse and buggy rides, a chili cook-off and “Frozen” fun, along with a spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction will round out the evening.

More than 20 vendors will be inside Village Hall as part of a craft and artisans show. The Alden Legion at 13143 Broadway will feature “Alden Trivia.”

Winterfest also will include a bounce house obstacle course for children 12 and under. Refreshments and games will be available.

On Saturday evening, Sara Elizabeth Genco will perform at Village Hall from 7 to 8. Afterward, The Boys of Summer will take the stage from 8 to midnight for an evening of dancing. Wine and chocolate tasting will be available for a nominal fee.

This week:

• The Town Board work session will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall, 3311 Wende Road. The regular meeting will convene at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Town Hall.
