Up to a few hundredths on an nch of ice accumulation is possible Saturday across most of the region, prompting the National Weather Service in Buffalo to issue a winter weather advisory through 11 p.m.
The weather service forecast showed light snow and drizzle could combine to create slippery conditions on roadways across western New York.
The "wintry mix" expected Saturday afternoon with temperatures right around the freezing point could make travel hazardous.
The Buffalo area will escape the brunt of a large winter storm off the East Coast that's bringing the potential for heavy snow Saturday in New England.
Much colder Canadian air, however, will be filtering into the region behind a clipper system.
That will drop daytime temperatures into the teens early next week with overnight lows back in the single digits.
