Check thief confronts wrong cashier at Wrights Corner Tops

WRIGHTS CORNERS – A cashier at the Tops market in Wrights Corners knew something wasn’t right Friday when a man came in attempting to cash a $30 rebate check – a check that was issued to the cashier’s aunt.

The man claimed the check had been signed over to him, according to police, who said the man left the store after the cashier refused to cash the check.

The aunt, police said, believed the check was likely stolen from her post office box.

Deputies were attempting to identify the suspected thief through store security camera footage.
