Peter Cimino and Chris Dorsaneo, the entrepreneur-chef duo behind Lloyd taco trucks, will appear on "Restaurant Startup" on Feb. 10.
CNBC will roll the show at 10 p.m.
The show pits two experienced truck operators with multi-truck fleets against each other. Restaurant investors Joe Bastianich (Mario Batali's business partner) and Tim Love (a Texas chef and investor) can choose to invest in the winner.
CNBC breaks it down like this:
La Cocinita, owned by newlyweds Benoit and Rachel, uses only handmade ingredients that showcase Benoit's Venezuelan roots. Lloyd Taco Truck, owned by two childhood friends, has generated a huge social media following that has the entire city of Buffalo rooting for the colorful company and its quirky creations. Will either of these teams earn the investment they need to get off the streets?
The last sentence is particularly interesting, as the Lloyd enterprise has been working on opening a brick-and-mortar store. The normally communicative and gregarious taco slingers have declined to comment on anything. One of the reasons could be that they won something.
That is pure rank speculation, of course, but it is a delicious thought. This is Season 2, Episode 5 for the show, but a win would be the first in Buffalo, and a national mark of honor for a growing restaurant community here. It would also be a sweet benediction for two hard-working Buffalo guys who built a strong company that created good jobs by making people happy with tacos on the mean streets of the Queen City.
I guess I better see where CNBC is on the dial.
