LOCKPORT – Gary Greenman of Niagara Falls, who uses an oxygen tank and is recovering from bladder cancer surgery in October, accepted a plea deal Thursday in connection with his molestation of an 11-year-old girl between March 2013 and May 2014.
Greenman, 67, of Forest Avenue, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child. Because of his health problems, Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon said she would place him on probation for 10 years instead of sending him to prison for as long as four years.
When Greenman returns to court April 17, Sheldon will decide whether to place him under virtual house arrest except for medical treatments, or whether to allow him more freedom of movement. Defense attorney James J. Faso Jr. said Greenman’s health is “declining very rapidly.” He had a previous surgery in 2007 for prostate cancer and uses the oxygen tank because of lung damage caused by exposure to asbestos.
