MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County STOP-DWI Program announced Wednesday that Chautauqua County police agencies recently participated in three special enforcement efforts to crack down on impaired driving.
The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts started on October 31, 2014. Special patrols took place during Halloween Weekend, Thanksgiving Weekend, and the last three weeks of December 2014. These periods are historically deadly times for impaired driving, Sheriff Joseph Gerace said.
ChautauquaCounty STOP-DWI patrols worked with New York State Police, and police departments in Dunkirk, Ellicott, Fredonia, Jamestown, Lakewood and Westfield.
The funding for these crackdowns is provided by the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation through a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee via the National Traffic Safety Administration.
