Birdair covering Puerto Rico cathedral

A Birdair roof will top off the Gran Carpa Catedral, a cathedral and spiritual center in Puerto Rico.

The Amherst-based company’s 423,000 square foot PVC membrane roof – covering land area equal to four football fields – is set for completion this summer in Cayey, in Central Puerto Rico. The facility’s name is Spanish for “Great Tent Cathedral.”

Birdair is designing, fabricating and supplying the PVC membrane and clamping. The dollar value of the project to Birdair was not disclosed.

Birdair will also provide technical advisers for the installation of the red, white and blue roof, which will cover the cathedral’s arching metal structure.
