First Amherst has transferred ownership of several key properties to it president, Ben Obletz.
The properties include the Snyder Square office and retail center on Main Street in Amherst, the Snyder Square North office building on Harlem Road in Amherst, and the Snyder Square II retail center on Main Street near Harlem Road in Amherst. Three other properties were also transferred, including 4516 Main St. in Snyder, which houses Siena Restaurant.
The legal transaction streamlines ownership of the properties, which was held by various family members, trusts and estates.
Ben Obletz represents the third generation of the Obletz family’s real estate and development company. First Amherst Development group began in 1958 when Obletz’s grandfather Bernard acquired one of his father’s Amherst drug stores and expended it into an office building.
First Amherst is also known for its adaptive re-use projects. In 1999, it developed the Lofts @ Elks Terminal, turning a vacant food terminal into loft apartments. In 2006, it turned five buildings on Main Street’s 800 block into the Granite Works, which houses high-end apartments and retail space.
