Buffalo knows Ron Davis as Lee Ron Zydeco, the singer, keyboard player and accordionist who personifies the spirit of the Big Easy. But Davis also leads the Ronnie Davis Combo, which plays funky organ soul-jazz and blues. After all, as a keyboardist he has performed with the Four Tops, Otis Rush, Spencer Davis and the Dirty Dozen Brass.
The Ronnie Davis Combo takes its cue from such artists as Jimmy Smith, Groove Holmes and Ray Charles, but it also turns out originals in what Davis calls a contemporary groove. Joining Davis are Doug Morgano on guitar and Rob Lynch on drums. Such sounds might be just what a Buffalonian needs to soothe away the stresses of the holidays.
The Ronnie Davis Combo plays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Sportsmen’s Tavern (326 Amherst St.). Admission is $3. For info, call 874-7734.
