Robert E. Eckis Jr., retired insurance agent, WWII veteran

Robert E. Eckis Jr., of West Falls, a retired insurance agent and mortgage broker, died Monday in Buffalo General Medical Center after a short illness. He was 90.

Born in Canton, Ohio, he was a graduate of Lafayette High School and served in the Army as a medic with the 66th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Eckis founded Payment Plans Inc., which provides insurance and financing for mobile homes and modular homes, in 1957. He retired in 1986.

His son, John, is now president of the company.

A former Amherst resident, he was a member of Park Country Club for more than 70 years and won many athletic championships. He also was a pilot.

His wife, the former Madalyn Bolster, died in 1981.

Survivors include another son, Gary R.; a daughter, Cynthia F.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive at Hopkins Road, Amherst.
