Letter: Murder of two officers comes as no surprise

Murder of two officers comes as no surprise

Two of New York City’s finest are ambushed, gunned down, assassinated and we’re shocked? This is the inevitable outcome of the vitriolic rhetoric that has permeated the media since the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. As the media tried to quench their insatiable thirst for controversy, anybody who would say anything about the shooting was put before the cameras. It made little difference that what they were saying was completely inaccurate and reeked of total ignorance of the facts.

Thrown before the cameras once again were venom spewers like Al Sharpton, whose relevancy should have died when his integrity and honesty did in 1987 during the infamous Tawana Brawley hoax. Instead Sharpton is elevated to demigod being embraced by the White House.

Brown, Eric Garner and now Antonio Martin are being portrayed as innocent victims, defiling the sacrifices made by true martyrs like Medgar Evers, James Chaney and Martin Luther King Jr., who dedicated themselves to making the world a better place. The real issues facing society are being ignored while focus is placed on racial tension.

What we are dealing with, as Americans of all races, colors and creeds, are people intent on preying on society. They are criminals who have no respect for others, no respect for hard work and, more importantly, no respect for life. They are leeches looking for the easy way out and do not care who they hurt. And what separates us from them? A blue line; a thin blue line that was tragically made even thinner in New York.
