Five things to know about First Night Buffalo

First Night Buffalo – the region’s annual drug- and alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration – will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday in the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

The 26th annual event is among a number of gathering options for New Year's Eve in the region. You can read about others here.

First Night Buffalo host and sponsor, the Independent Health Foundation, offered the following list of five things every family should know about the family-friendly event:

1. Tickets prices include all entertainment and rides: Advance tickets cost $10 at all area Wegmans (children age 2 and younger are free). Tickets are $12 at the door. Learn more about the shows, games, rides and other fun activities under the Event Schedule tab at firstnightbuffalo.org.

2. Parking is free: It’s available at nearby Main Place Mall and Fernbach civic auto ramps.

3. It concludes with a grand finale countdown: At 9:45 p.m., a family-friendly time balloon drop will take place.

4. New this year, families can train like the Buffalo Bills: Visit the NFL Play60 and Fitness for Kids Challenge room. Families can move through stations and experience hands-on, football-themed fitness activities.

5. Jeff Musial – The Animal Guy: Back by popular demand, Musial has appeared numerous times on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and continues to be a regular guest on the “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” Musial will bring his animal friends and entertain families with a mix of education and fun.

“All of us have the opportunity to create healthier habits for ourselves and our families, and First Night Buffalo is the perfect place to make that commitment and start the year off right,” Dr. Michael W. Cropp, president and CEO of Independent Health, said in a news release. “Thank you to all of the sponsors and volunteers who make this outstanding event possible.”
