If there were children in your Western New York family in the 1980s, chances are at some point you participated in the same sort of activity that was tradition in my family.
We all climbed into our wood-paneled Dodge Aries station wagon and headed north for the (free) majesty of thousands of twinkling lights. Oh, and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. But those lights!
"The carnival rides and concessions at Santa's Magical Midway in the Convention and Civic Center will be among the principal events of this holiday weekend as the ninth annual Festival of Lights heads into the last full week of its 44-day run.
"The midway will remain open from noon to 11 p.m. daily throughout the weekend, including New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but it will close for the season at 11 p.m. Monday. Admission to the indoor midway is free, but tickets are required for the individual rides."
