Town of Niagara woman hit by pickup remains hospitalized

Jessica McDivitt, 26, of the Town of Niagara was identified Monday as the woman hit by a pickup truck as she walked home from work just before 6 p.m. Saturday on Fourth Avenue, between Military and Porter roads.

She was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center with severe head and body injuries and remained in critical condition in the hospital intensive care unit on Monday.

Town of Niagara Police Chief H. James Suitor said the section of Fourth Avenue where McDivitt was hit is dimly lit and there are no sidewalks.

“There are a lot of undeveloped parcels in the area,” Suitor said.

The driver of the pickup, Fateen Abdellatis, of North Tonawanda, stopped and was questioned at the scene. He told Town of Niagara police he did not see McDivitt in the roadway. He was charged at the scene with having an unregistered motor vehicle. Additional charges are pending as the Niagara County Sheriff Department’s Accident Investigation Unit continues to investigate, Suitor said.

Suitor said McDivitt lives in the Royal Park Apartments on Fourth Avenue and had been walking home from her job at Jo-Ann Fabric in the Big Lots Plaza at Fourth Avenue and Military Road.
