New mayor and new state senator will take oaths in North Tonawanda

NORTH TONAWANDA – Newly appointed North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas will be sworn in at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Tonawanda City Hall, 216 Payne Ave.

Pappas, the former Alderman-at-large was appointed to the one-year interim position by the Common Council at its last meeting on Dec. 16. Voters will elect a new mayor in November.

Pappas replaces former Mayor Robert G. Ortt, who was elected to the State Senate in November. Ortt will serve as master of ceremonies and administer the oath of office to Pappas.

Ortt will be sworn in at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St. Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek will preside at the ceremonies.

Refreshments will be served following each ceremony.
