Elsie M. Sager, 97, of Brant, one of the first dairy farmers in the Brant-Farnham area, died Saturday at Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving, where she had been undergoing rehabilitation after breaking her hip.
She was born March 25, 1917, and had lived with her son, Robert Sager, and his wife Shirley on the dairy farm, which has been in the family for 75 years. At its high point, the farm had 200 cows.
Besides helping raise the cows, Mrs. Sager took care of the bookkeeping into her 80s.
Before she started dairy farming full time, she worked at Anderson Greenhouses in Farnham for 10 years during the 1950s, helping to grow chrysanthemums, roses and other flowers.
In addition to her son, she is survived by four grandsons and two step-grandchildren. She also is survived by five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Addison Funeral Home, 262 N. Main St., Angola, following a wake from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
