What it means: The Bills finished the year 9-7, their second winning record this century and first in a decade. They also won in Gillette Stadium for the first time. They were 0-12 here.

Player of the game: Bills quarterback Kyle Orton was 16 of 23 for 176 yards and a touchdown. Most importantly, he didn't throw any interceptions.

Play of the day: At 8:31 of the second quarter, Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins missed on his first attempt to sack Orton, rolled on the ground, got up and beat Bills running back C.J. Spiller again to blast Orton and force a fumble. Collins then came up with the recovery at the Bills' 44-yard line.

No Gronk: The Patriots scratched star tight end Rob Gronkowski to save him for the playoffs. In seven career games against the Bills, the Amherst native has 37 receptions for 543 yards and nine touchdowns.

Stat of the day: The Patriots had won an NFL-record 35 straight regular-season home games against AFC opponents.

MVP? Bills kicker Dan Carpenter set the club record for field goals with a 48-yarder in the second quarter. He finished with 34, converting 13 of his 16 attempts from 40 yards or farther.
