Child endangerment alleged in Walmart shoplifting spree

NIAGARA FALLS – Police said four adults, accompanied by two young children, went on a shoplifting spree Friday night in the Super Walmart store on Military Road.

Child Protective Services was alerted after three of the adults were arrested and charged with petit larceny, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief. The suspects were identified as Jody M. Helmer, 27, of Niagara Falls Boulevard, and Nicole Gianino, 29, and DeneenM. Martin, 50, both of Main Street.

The children, ages 6 years and 16 months, were released to the custody of man who was not immediately charged. Store officials are expected to pursue a warrant for his arrest, police said.

Police said the suspdects opened up packages and stole several items from the store about 6 p.m. All of the items were recovered from a vehicle used by the supects, police said.
