NIAGARA FALLS – The City Council on Friday agreed to contribute funding to a New Year’s Eve concert downtown at a lesser amount than originally proposed by Mayor Paul A. Dyster.
Lawmakers voted, 3-2, to provide $10,000 in money collected through the bed tax for the event organized by the Hard Rock Cafe. Dyster originally had budgeted $27,000 as the city’s contribution.
The concert will take place on Old Falls Street with the headlining act Theory of a Deadman. To ring in 2015, the event will include a “guitar drop” off the Giacomo on First Street.
Councilmen Glenn A. Choolokian and Robert A. Anderson Jr. voted against awarding the funds, while Chairman Charles A. Walker, Councilwoman Kristen M. Grandinetti and Councilman Andrew P. Touma voted in favor of it.
