Eichel, two Sabres prospects kick off world juniors for USA today

It's a holiday in Canada on Friday, and we're not talking about Boxing Day.

The puck is ready to drop for the world junior championship, which is being held in Toronto and Montreal. Russia-Denmark and Czech Republic-Sweden will be the games Friday in Toronto, while United States-Finland and Slovakia-Canada will compete in Montreal.

The games featuring the United States (3 p.m.) and Canada (8 p.m.) will be televised live on NHL Network.

Jack Eichel is the captain for the U.S. team, while Connor McDavid is an alternate for Canada. They are expected to be selected Nos. 1 and 2 in the next NHL Draft.

Sabres prospects Hudson Fasching and J.T. Compher are forwards for the United States. According to the USA Hockey game notes, Fasching, from the University of Minnesota, will be the third-line right winger alongside center Dylan Larkin and left wing Tyler Motte, teammates at Michigan.

Compher, who also plays for the Wolverines, will center the fourth line with left wing Miles Wood and right wing John Hayden.

Sabres prospect Sam Reinhart is an alternate captain for Canada and is expected to center the top line.
