Writer assailing liberals offers flimsy argument
A recent letter labeling liberals and Democrats as hypocrites is so full of innuendo and generalizations that it leaves one perplexed as to where to begin. Since when did being opposed to torture, which, incidentally, is a crime prohibited by both U.S. and international law, and the alleged acceptance of drone use become mutually inclusive concepts? They are totally separate concepts and there is no justification in falsely combining them to condemn liberals as hypocrites.
For the record, there are perhaps millions of liberal Democrats who oppose both torture and the seemingly capricious use of drones, I and many of my acquaintances being among them. And how does the assassination of Osama bin Laden enter the discussion, since no definitive proof exists that “enhanced interrogation” contributed to his location, a position supported by Sen. John McCain?
There is implication in the letter that liberal Obama’s use of drones to “kill innocent civilians and children” is anathema to the writer. Yet why no condemnation of the tragic loss of life of more than 100,000 innocent Iraqi civilians and children as a direct result of conservative George W. Bush’s invasion of that country?
When someone cherry-picks his choice of hypocrites, he boldly demonstrates the true meaning of the word.
