Frank J. Gizzo Sr., longtime Buffalo city worker

Frank J. Gizzo Sr. died Monday in his North Buffalo home after a brief illness. He was 75.

Born in Buffalo, he graduated from McKinley High School in 1959. He served in the National Guard for six years from 1960 to 1966.

Mr. Gizzo was a City of Buffalo employee for over 30 years, serving under three mayoral administrations, Stanley M. Makowski, James D. Griffin and Anthony Masiello. He held several positions during his tenure, including building inspector, Housing Court officer, head inspector in the Housing Court and director of inspections. He retired as coordinator for the Mayor’s Impact Team in 2002.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, the former Sharon Kopias; a son, Frank J. Jr.; a daughter, Roxane Gugino; three sisters, Marie Maritato, Evelyn Alaimo and Frances Morabito; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, 1395 Hertel Ave.
