University at Buffalo sophomore Shannon Evans has been named the Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week, the conference office announced. Evans becomes the second different UB player to win the award this season, following Justin Moss, who won it following the first weekend of play. For Evans, this is the first time he has been named the conference's Player of the Week in his career.
Evans led the Bulls to a pair of victories this past week as he averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 assists per game. Evans became the first UB player since Jarod Oldham during the 2011-12 season to record at least eight assists in back-to-back games
Meanwhile, Canisius redshirt-freshman Adam Weir was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Rookie of the Week after he averaged 7.5 points per game while shooting 71.4 percent from 3-point range in the team’s two home wins over Stony Brook and Holy Cross. Weir is the first Golden Griffin to receive a weekly award from the conference office this season.
UB's Alexus Malone has been Named Big 4 Player of the Week for the second time this season. Malone, who also garnered the inaugural honor on November 24, averaged close to a double-double putting up 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Bulls.
