Reporters’ Notebook

OLAF FUB SEZ: An observation from investigative journalist I.F. Stone, born on this date in 1907, “Rich people march on Washington every day.”

Reason for the Season

All the commotion,

Going store to store,

Sometimes will deflect

What the season is for.

It’s not about buying gifts

And hearing carolers sing.

Celebrating the birth of Jesus

Is the one true thing.

Decorate the house,

Put up the trim.

None of this would happen

If it wasn’t for him.

Shopping at the malls

Could put your life in danger.

Picture a newborn baby

Lying in a manger.

So many distractions

During the holiday season,

Nothing is more exciting

Than the one real reason.

Open all the gifts,

Let the children play,

Say happy birthday to Jesus

On his very special day.

Traditions will come and go,

Some will stay the same.

The loving feeling of Christ

Forever will remain.

Every year the Christmas spirit

Continues to grow strong.

Remember what the season is about,

Carry it with us all year long.
