Man sought in shooting that injured woman in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – Niagara Falls Police believe a man was shooting at a car with his ex-girlfriend inside when a bullet struck a woman walking down Whitney Avenue near 17th Street Monday night.

Police are looking for Jimmie L. Caldwell, 28, who they say fired a semi-automatic handgun at the vehicle, which fled the area. No one in the car was injured, police said Tuesday.

The 25-year-old woman who was shot in the leg just before 8:30 p.m. was treated and released from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Investigators said they do not believe she was the target.

Caldwell is wanted on charges of second-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, and first-degree reckless endangerment. He already had several outstanding warrants from previous incidents that include driving with a suspended license, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of stolen property.

Anyone with information on Caldwell’s whereabouts is asked to call police at 286-4711.
