The new Explore & More Children’s Museum planned for Canalside came $500,000 closer to reality on Tuesday, thanks to a donation from Fisher-Price to sponsor the Tinkering Tank hands-on workshop for children and families.
Over the past 20 years, the East Aurora toy maker, a longtime supporter of the museum, had given $225,000 in operational support and approximately $275,000 in in-kind donations. Tuesday’s donation is the largest single gift to the museum to date.
“Research has proven unequivocally that young children learn best in a playful environment. Engaging children in hands-on activities allows them to naturally discover, grow and learn skills that they’ll use for a lifetime,” said Geoff Walker, executive vice president of Fisher-Price Global Brands. “The Tinkering Tank is a wonderful example of the kind of playful environment in which children will be building those skills.”
Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. is planning to break ground next year on the 40,000-square-foot museum.
