Car dealership Basil Ford has completed its purchase of the AMF Thruway Lanes property in Cheektowaga, potentially sealing the fate of the 60-lane bowling alley that has hosted leagues, recreational bowlers, parties and even the Professional Bowlers Association during its 58-year history.
The dealership, through 1520-1540 Walden Avenue Realty LLC, paid $3.1 million to buy the bowling facility at 1550-1564 Walden from IStar Bowling Centers I LP. The facility has been operated by Bowlmor AMF, which also runs the larger, nearby AMF Airport Lanes.
AMF officials previously told bowling league representatives that the facility would not remain open if the sale closed, but did not indicate when it would shut down. Basil Ford principal Charles Basil Sr. had deferred to AMF to make that decision, and AMF officials could not be reached to comment Monday on how long the facility would remain open.
